The day is an observance of the anniversary of the birth of the Bab on 1819, in Shiraz, Persia (now Iran), of Siyyid ‘Ali-Muhammad, who later took the title of “the Bab,” meaning “the Gate.” The Bab was the herald of the Baha’i Faith. The day is one of the nine holy days of the yearwhen work is suspended.

Naw-Rúz in the Bahá'í Faith is one of nine holy days for adherents of the Bahá'í Faith worldwide and the first day of the Bahá'í calendar occurring on the vernal equinox, around March 21.^[1] Norouz, historically and in contemporary times, is the celebration of the traditional Iranian new year holiday and is celebrated throughout the countries of the Middle East and Central Asia such as in Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Since ancient times it has been a national holiday in Iran and was celebrated by more than one religious group.^[1] The Báb, the founder of Bábism, and then Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of the Bahá'í Faith, adopted the day as a holy day and associated it with the Most Great Name of God.^[1]^[2]

The Baha'i Community of Minneapolis welcomes friends, family and neighbors to our annual celebration of Naw Ruz.

On March 20, 2010 starting at 7:00 PM our community will be having a gathering at the Baha'i Center to share the beginning of our New Year!

The gathering will start out welcoming all and then having a short prayer of thanks. After thanks and prayers there will be a pot luck sit down meal. (Please bring a dish to share.)
There will be a short program at the end of the meal.

Last year we had a full house and plenty of fellowship. Please join us at The Baha'i Center to celebrate the beginning of a New Year and be thankful what we have been given.

Birth of Baha’u’llah (Nov. 12):
Baha’is observe the anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah (born Mirza Husayn-‘Ali) on Nov. 12, 1817, in Tehran, Persia (now Iran). Baha’u’llah, which means the “Glory of God,”is the founder of the Baha’i Faith. It is one of the nine holy days of the year when work is suspended.

Day of the Covenant (Nov. 26):
This festival commemorates Baha’u’llah’s appointment of his eldest son, ‘Abdu’l-Baha, as the Center of His Covenant.

Ascension of ‘Abdu’l-Baha (Nov 28):
Baha’is observe the anniversary of the death of ‘Abdu’l-Baha, son of Baha’u’llah and His appointed succesor, on Nov 28, 1921 in Haifa, in what is now northern Israel.

the 9th Day of Ridvan will NOT be observed at the Baha'i Center. It will be at Auerbach Commons of the Law School at the U of M.

The University of Minnesota Baha’i Campus Association invites the Minneapolis community to celebrate the 9th Day of Ridvan. The celebration will begin on Wednesday, April 29th at 8:15 p.m. and will last until about 10:00 p.m. Ed Rice will speak on the significance of the event; and Amirhossein Kiani, a member of the Iran's House of Art student group will perform traditional Persian music on his tar. Refreshments will be provided. There will be a children's program.

Below are directions based on parking in the free parking garage.

Here are walking directions once you have reached the free parking garage located at 400 21st Avenue S Minneapolis, MN. Remember you can also pay $6 to park directly outside of the law school (229 19th Avenue S).

Directions from the Parking Garage to the Law School
• exit the parking garage on 21st ave (the same road you entered from)
• take a left and walk towards the first road (4th St. South)
• take a left on 4th St.
• continue on 4th St. past Carlson School of Management (on the left)
• Take a right at 19th avenue
• continue on 19th ave. over the bridge that goes over Washington Ave.
• at the 1st stoplight after the bridge turn right (the law school is the building to the right)
• enter through the front glass doors
• Auerbach commons is straight ahead in the Law School

Alternative (quicker but trickier directions)
• after turning left onto 4th st. there is a small driveway (on the right side of 4th st. leading towards the University)
• straight ahead of you will be a bicycle lane (2 lanes) painted on the ground
• continue to follow the bike lane north through the University
o there will be a small wishbone but continue walking straight (towards the north)
• continue following the bike lane up the ramp
• follow the bike lane as it turns to the left
• the bike lane will come to an end near a staircase
• after going down the staircase stay on the sidewalk (the law school will be on your left and a parking lot will be on the right)
• as you get to the front of the law school you will take a left at the circle driveway and the glass doors will be directly in front of you
• after you enter the law school, Auerbach Commons will be directly in front of you

The Regional Baha'i Council has encouraged sharing the following message with the friends . . . regarding the closing of registration for the Chicago conference next week (after more than 1500 people registered!):

Dear Bahá'í Friend:

We understand your disappointment in not being able to register at the Chicago/Schaumburg Conference. Due to the overwhelming response by the friends in the Central Region to attend our seating capacity for the conference has been exceeded, and there will be no room for those that have not already made their registrations. The National Spiritual Assembly must abide by the fire codes of the hotel and not allow more people to register than we have seating. We are sure you understand that the National Assembly wishes to insure the safety and well being of the participants.

If you are able, you may want to consider attending one of the other five conferences in the United States. In addition, each conference is being video-taped and the Assembly will be make video footage available to the friends after the conference. While it is not the same as attending, we are sure you will understand.

The Regional Bahá'í Council of the Central States sends you its loving best wishes and assures you of its prayers for the peace of your heart.

A beautiful musical program, performed by our dear friend Marc Ochu, will be another delightful part of the evening.

The Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MNCASA) is Spotlight Organization for Pillsbury House Theater Production of Blackbird

MNCASA is pleased to be the spotlight organization for the Pillsbury House Theater’s run of Blackbird during the month of November. The play is an engrossing and challenging look at the complexities of sexual violence. Blackbird will be playing on a Guthrie stage instead of at the Pillsbury House Theater.
